Perched above Manhattan’s Upper West Side, this refined penthouse by YDC Design
redefines urban tranquility through the lens of the NeuroSensory Design™
Method. Designed as a serene family pied-à-terre, the residence offers a sanctuary just steps
from Lincoln Center, Central Park, and the city’s cultural corridor.
YDC Design approached the comprehensive renovation with a holistic philosophy—prioritizing
sensory wellness, emotional resonance, and spatial harmony. Natural light is maximized
throughout, gently filtered by curated window treatments that support circadian rhythms. A rich
palette of tactile materials—ranging from handwoven textiles and sculptural ceramics to honed
wood and natural stone—creates a calming sensory field that invites touch, grounding, and
breath.
Every element has been considered for its neuroaesthetic impact. The kitchen, framed by warm
walnut cabinetry and waterfall-edge quartzite, anchors the home with both elegance and ease of
use, while the spa-inspired primary bath employs organic materials and rhythmic repetition to
foster a meditative experience. Custom millwork integrates functional storage seamlessly,
reducing visual noise and supporting mental clarity.
Throughout the penthouse, layered lighting—both architectural and decorative—enhances mood
modulation and circadian alignment. Furniture is arranged to promote connection, fluid
movement, and moments of restorative pause, while artwork and accessories spark emotion and
memory.
This project exemplifies YDC Design’s commitment to creating not just beautiful spaces, but
ones that feel intuitively nourishing—tailored to how we see, feel, and live. The result is a
contemporary yet soulful home that supports the modern rhythms of family life, where well-
being is not an afterthought, but the foundation.
