Setauket Project

Location: East Setauket, New York
Interior Designer: Rose Praino

Details:

Set atop the wooded coastline of Long Island’s North Shore, this comprehensive residential renovation by YDC Design exemplifies modern organic living through the lens of NeuroSensory Design™ — a method that merges biophilic design, sensory awareness, and spatial psychology to elevate well-being at home.

Designed for a young family transitioning from city life to coastal serenity, the Setauket residence reflects a deep commitment to emotional functionality and refined livability. Every element — from material selection to spatial rhythm — was chosen to stimulate the senses without overwhelming them. Floor-to-ceiling windows invite nature in, while custom millwork, sculptural lighting, and grounding palettes bring tactile warmth and architectural clarity.

Key features include a floating staircase bathed in natural light, a Labradorite-clad kitchen island that glows with elemental energy, and a multi-sensory children’s lounge designed to nurture both creativity and calm. The home also integrates natural materials such as walnut, limestone, Copacabana and Lumerian stone, and handwoven textiles — each one selected for its sensory resonance and organic beauty.

From the wellness-oriented primary suite with coastal views to the intimate bar lounge with acoustic sculptural panels, every space was crafted with the nervous system in mind. The result is a cohesive, emotionally intelligent home that breathes with its surroundings while quietly enhancing daily rituals.
