Adventures in Lighting

Light fixtures can be a tricky thing. Sure, it’s easy to have the electrician make the connection, but the delicacies of the details are often left to more experienced and loving hands.

I’ll admit, there are a lot of times that my sole determination is to only see the beauty, though once the box opens up (and the directions) it can leave me wondering if that was really the best call… it always is!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Example 1:

This lovely West Elm Capiz fixture was super inexpensive but took a serious undertaking to unwrap every single strand! They were individually wrapped in plastic and taped. A method for removing the tape easily is STRONGLY advised!

Example 2:

The final view of this Dove Chandelier was worth unwrapping every single individually-wrapped dove.

Wavehill, Close To My Heart

By | Design | No Comments

Wavehill was my sanctuary when my children were small. It was the one place they could truly run free. The ability to work from my BlackBerry for part of the day gave us the freedom to roam the dog-free fields and explore the woods.

Wavehill in itself is gorgeous and a constant source of color, pattern and textural inspiration. After a long hiatus, I recently took the kids for a fall outing, which we all found incredibly nostalgic.

Not-So-Crafty Does Crafty

I really love to add little custom details to projects. Some ideas are great… other ideas are great but my gosh, they take forever. At some point during the project I wonder what on earth I was thinking… until I finish. Then look at what I’ve created and beam. This happened to be a time intensive project, when time was kind of an issue… but I beamed, so it was worth it!

It started with an idea for trim on drapery for a sweet little girl’s room.
…so I looked and looked until I found some felt garland.

…then I had to attach the balls to thread, and then to the drapery…

NYC Flower District

The fall is an excellent time to stroll down the one double sided block of 28th St and peek into all the flower shops, which are brimming with seasonal inspiration.

There is something so unexpected and delightful in seeing the harsh and dirty sidewalks in bloom. The pumpkins and gourds are full of unique stripes and bumpy textures, while the harvested colored flowers offer fragrance and abundance. Though on this particular day flowers were off my list, as my mission was a fig tree and interesting succulent plantings.
